Glimpses of the Salesforce Spring 20 Release

It’s a chilly 2nd of January as of writing this piece, with the Sandboxes for the Salesforce Spring 20 Release due for update tomorrow and the day after.

Like others before it, the rolling release brings with it some long-awaited essentials like single-click emptying for the recycle bin, as well as some bells-and-whistles.

So without further dalliance, let’s get to it.

Of Treasures and Gems: Take the new features for a spin

After several treasure hunts by Salesforce developers all over the ecosystem. Although we can’t go over all of these, some features emerged as hot favorites. A lot of the features already have a following across discussion threads on the internet.

Some features are still in Beta and first-time Pilots. We’ve indicated those likewise.

  • Einstein Voice (Beta)

The much-touted game-changer for a mobile workforce on the run, letting service and sales personnel update Records in real-time by Voice.

The feature translates into obvious wins for adoption, time-savings in training, and client interaction TATs.

  • 10x quicker ‘Before Save’-updates in Flows

Record updates in Flows far outstrip traditional updates through process Builder
The idea is to trigger Flows through updates automatically before the Records trigger the Process Builder.

  • Field-less ‘Get Records’ Configuration

Time savings from an automated field selection for the element when plugged into a Flow.

  • Isolated ‘System Mode’ for Flows without trade-offs

Overarching File hierarchies and sharing policies remain unaffected. All the same user-level permissions are ignored, thus decoupling the Flow launch from user considerations entirely and simplifying Flow design.

The reduced dependency lets you design Flows around system behavior, leaving user considerations out of the equation.

  • Employ ‘Shared’ Queues to Assign Tasks

Workload sharing for Sales reps through Task Assignment in ‘Shared’ Queues. This lets individuals take ownership while also keeping progress and priorities in full view of a team, shedding more light on pain points in real-time.

  • Permission-’Sets’ for bulk permission assignment/removal

Permissions clumped into permission-’Sets’ for faster assignment with less back-and-forth. A dramatic improvement over individual permission assignments and removals. It comes with a fresh permissions management interface.

  • Delay Edit previews By Switching them off

You can now perform multiple consecutive edits to Reports, only previewing when you really need to.

  • Central Login to all Salesforce relevant websites

Trailblazer.me, a Login Interface generally available by January this year replaces multiple ecosystem logins with just one, saving time drastically.

It’s meant as a singular control for profile management and platform settings.

  • Reports Subscriptions now let you attach Spreadsheets to them

People subscribed to a Report can now receive complete spreadsheets relevant to a requested concern, alongside the usual upper-level details.

  • Single-Click empty the Recycle Bin

Finally! No more individual selections for objects to delete or restore. Also, you don’t need to switch to Salesforce Classic to permanently delete all items in one go.

If you’ve got the ‘Modify All Data’ permission on you, the ‘Empty Org Recycle Bin’ is here to stay.

  • The List-View ‘hover-preview’

Staffers can now preview and edit case details through a tiny-ish preview window that comes up on hovering over a case’s Subject.

Even more, you can edit the Service Settings to change what the preview window shows you.

  • The ‘Show Unique Count’ action in Reports now lets you run unique value counts

Besides looking at distinct values for realistic estimates, get final totals and sub-totals for groups at the bottom of the Report.

The Show Unique Count option lets agents add unique counts next to their Fields.

Plenty More Where That Came From

The Salesforce Spring 20 Release has all the hallmarks of a post-Dreamforce rolling release. Notably, there’s been a renewed focus on productivity and reduced TATs, frequently-requested capabilities made the cut.

Then there’re other subtle timer-saving in-betas like the consecutive appointment scheduling and time-related conversational search. Opportunity-scoring for Page Layouts is free too! (Pretty neat considering this gem was previously paid).

That said, it’ll be interesting to see what features make the final cut to mold future releases.
