Here’s how you can do it!

STEP 1: Creating an account on Dear Systems and obtaining the Account ID and Key from it

  • Create an account on dear systems Click here.
  • After creating the account, click on “Dear” under the Connect Your Accounting System section and finish the setup.
  • On the left side pane, click on Integration, and find the API option, proceed to click on Dear System API.
  • Add a new application thereby entering the name.
  • There you will get the account Id, Name, and Key of that application.

STEP 2: To begin with integration we have to start with the following steps:

  1. Go to Setup in Salesforce and type ‘Custom Settings’.
  2. Click on New and create an Object and give name – Dear Settings(API Name – Dear_Settings__c ) and select setting type (List).
  3. Create three fields in Dear_Settings__c Object –
  • Application_Key__c (Data Type – Text)
  • Base_URL__c (Data Type – Text)
  • Customer_Endpoint__c (Data Type – Text)
  • Key__c (Data Type – Text)
  • Now Create a record by clicking on Manage
  • Click on New

Now create a record of name ‘Cred’ and Paste your Account ID in Key__c, Key in Application_Key__c , and for Base_URL__c (https://inventory.dearsystems.com/ExternalApi/v2), for Customer_Endpoint__c (/customer).

STEP 3:

  • Now Go to Setup and type ‘Account’ and click on its fields.
  • Create two fields there:
  1. Dear_System_Customer_ID__c (Data Type – Text)
  2. Exception_Message__c (Data Type – Text Area)

Here’s the code for it:

Now, create a process builder on Account which will invoke an apex method and insert an account into Dear Systems.

  • Goto to Setup and type Type Process Builder, Create new.
  • Name the process builder as “Invoke Customer In Dear System”, select account as an object.
  • Select action as Apex and choose the method as “insertCustomerDearSystem”.

Now lets test it!

  • Create an account in Salesforce.

  • Now open the Dear System account and check the Customer Section, then there will be a newly created record of your customer from Salesforce.

  • If any issue occurs during the creation of a record in the Dear system, the exception message will be reflected on Account.
